About
Compulsion, indeed, obsession for fashion design, is hardly something one
expects to come out of a Broadcast/Journalism major, but that’s exactly what
happened to Selen Dincman.
Born in Istanbul, Turkey, but raised in Chestnut Hill, MA, Selen grew up
endlessly playing dress-up in front of the mirror and subsequently getting
her grandmother to make the “latest” fashion inventions.
It took quite some time for Selen to acknowledge her flair for art and fashion
and to pursue it professionally. She refers to this radical change in her life as
“a personal liberation… a process of decoding my DNA to claim my own
happiness.”
She always had trouble finding something to wear that everyone else wasn’t.
She always wanted to have something that was one of a kind, unique,
original. Thus, in 2000 she left her family and friends to pursue her dreams,
and ventured to Miami, FL. After establishing herself in 2006, she went
behind the scenes and introduced her own line, SIRMA, meaning “golden
thread” in her native language, and Selen’s middle name.
When designing her collection each season, Selen draws insight from her
travels around the world to find unique ideas, inspiration and fabrics. “I
wanted my line to be an organic blend of the creative expression of many
different countries enveloped into one; a line that is in constant
transformation as is the world around us.”
Selen describes her customer as the “fun-loving woman of any age who
exudes self confidence and charisma”. These dresses are definitely made to
be seen!
